The lights flickered on and off for a few moments and then brightened the large sconces on the walls once again. A man’s voice came from down the hall. “Are you two coming?” It was Frankie. He poked his head out of one of the rooms several doors down from where Lily and Judy were standing.

“I thought you were checking our room. We thought we had lost you,” Judy said with a nervous chuckle.

“I didn’t see any point in that. I started checking rooms down this way. Now that the lights are on, we should be able to check all of the rooms on this floor pretty quickly if we split up. We can travel down the hall together for security reasons. You two take that side of the hall, and I’ll take this side.”

After searching every room on the second floor, Judy, Lily, and Frankie decided to join Reagan and Jed on the third floor. They found them in the middle of the hall as they came out of one of the small rooms.

“No sign of her downstairs. Any luck up here?” Frankie asked.

“Nothing so far. We have this end yet to check,” Jed said as he pointed down the hall away from the three who had just climbed the stairs.

“We are finished downstairs. We’ll give you a hand.” Lily offered. She expressed a smile toward Reagan that was not reciprocated.

The five searchers continued in the adjacent building, giving up as the sun started to shine through the windowpanes at the end of each corridor. They crossed back to the main building over the second-floor sky bridge and descended to the main level to find Ashton and Dayton standing around a large prep table in the kitchen, chomping on cookies.

“These are great, Dayton said in Lily’s direction.

“I didn’t make those. Reagan did. She made them last night. She wanted to surprise everyone this morning.”

“Well, we were very pleasantly surprised to find them,” Ashton said with crumbs falling from his mouth. “They are incredible.”

“I thought there weren’t any eggs,” Jed noted.

“My mom couldn’t eat eggs,” Reagan spoke for the first time in hours. “Allergy. It’s a no-egg recipe. Basically, you use extra oil to keep the consistency right. Not a big deal.”

“Emergency no yeast bread and allergy no egg cookies… what will we learn next?” Judy joked.

“How to get out of here, I hope,” Frankie responded.

“Frankie, do you know the way back to Howard’s truck?” Jed asked.

“I think I can find it. I’m happy to go there to check for Howard.”

“I think the Hummer is our best bet to get out of here,” Jed said. “It needs gas. I can cut one of the beer tap lines, and you can use it for a siphoning hose. Maybe Ashton or Dayton can go with you to get gas so that we can fill the Hummer. I’ll try to get to the visitor center to see if I can get a cell signal to call for help.”

“I’ll go with Jed,” Dayton offered in a low tone.
